this is what makes me proud to be an american. the idea that anyone, anywhere can tell another person who or how to love or live their private life is appalling and ridiculous. personal religious beliefs are NOT a foundation for government policies that affect the lives on millions, regardless of their own religious affiliation. i honestly don’t understand how these people can care so much about who someone loves or has sex with to the point of attempting to keep them from marrying, gathering, or defending their country. i am disgusted by the blatant homophobia and ignorance displayed by both the audience who and the stage of politicians (president-hopefuls, as obama pointed out) who allowed a hero, an american soldier, to be booed. this man sent his video in from iraq. how dare an audience full of ignorant so-called “patriots” boo a man who is willing to give his life for the country that wouldn’t even let him be himself without fear of losing his job (until obama repealed DADT, that is). republicans are the main ones who extol the virtues of patriotism and americanism. there is no one who better embodies the beauty of america than a soldier fighting for the right to live in america and, hopefully, be free to enjoy his life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. isn’t that what america is all about?
